How to Make a Sawtooth Star (Using Your AccuQuilt Go!)

As we work our way through Summer Stash Busting, I suspect you, like me, are developing a pile of scraps from all these quilt tops we’ve been making. 8” Sawtooth Star blocks are one of my favorite scrap busters, and today I’ve partnered with my friend Emily from Homemade Emily Jane to bring you tutorials for a fun, two block quilt we’re calling “Twice the Fun.”

Stash busting is fun and everything, but what are you supposed to do with all the funky leftover bits?? Trust me, Rockstar, I had the same question, so when Emily reached out about showing off how using our AccuQuilts can make whipping up scrap busting blocks super fast and easy, I was all for it! Together, we made two variations of a quilt we’re calling “Twice the Fun.”

I’m going to teach you how to make the Sawtooth Star, then you can pop over to Homemade Emily Jane to watch her String Quilt Block tutorial that uses the AccuQuilt Companion angles. (Don’t have the companion angles? I used the “O” block instructions found here to make my variation).

Supplies

Supplies needed for making sawtooth star blocks with your AccuQuilt

  • AccuQuilt Go! (This starter kit is what I have and is my absolute fave)

  • Dies 1, 2, 4, and 5 from the 8” Qube (this Qube set is included with the starter kit I mentioned above)

  • Scrap fabric (I recommend a consistent color for the background and several colors for the stars and strings of the two blogs)

  • Sewing machine, thread, etc

Twice the Fun

As I mentioned above, this quick two block quilt was made in collaboration with Homemade Emily Jane. She has a great tutorial waiting for you here to make the string quilt block variation that she used in her Twice the Fun Quilt.
