The Oliso Mini Project Iron is small and portable— perfect for small pressing stations or travel while still providing an excellent pressing experience.

I don’t know about your social media feeds, but I feel like I’ve been seeing these adorable little irons everywhere for months! When I had the chance to talk to the lovely folks over at Oliso and they asked if I would like one to try and use, I was SO excited! (Thank you, Oliso!)

Y’all know I don’t consider myself an expert on pressing. Or irons. In fact, if you’ve been around String & Story for a hot minute, you know I go thru cheap irons from Amazon like candy. Being gifted the Oliso Mini Project Iron has given the chance to see if a “proper” (brand name, more expensive, designed for quilting) iron is worth the hype.

Spoiler: it is.

The Details

First up, what IS the Oliso Mini Project Iron? The Mini is about half the size of a regular iron, has a smooth soleplate, steam, and a nice long cord. Oliso promises that it packs all the punch of a full size iron, in a much more portable package.

Personally, I felt like that was quite the product promise, but I couldn’t resist the charm of the Mini— it is the perfect size for the pressing mat by my machine, plus it comes with a silicone “sole mate” to rest the iron on, so I could quit being nervous that I would swivel around on camera and hit the plate of my hot iron with my elbow.

The Verdict

I looove it. Like, “lemme put away my full size cheapie iron and only use my Oliso Mini Project Iron” kind of love it.

My favorite things:

  • It is heavy. Not “Omg, this thing is a brick,” but it has good heft for its size. I can get a good firm press. This honestly surprised me as I expected it to be too light for a really good press.

  • It is hot! Not only is there not an auto shut off (three cheers for that!) but I can press with it only on the medium heat setting, and it is still plenty hot for getting good, crispy cottons.

  • The “sole mate.” When your iron is not in use, it protects the iron plate and can be used not only for travel but also to hang the iron on a peg board in your sewing space. (adorable? yes!). PLUS, as I mentioned above, the iron rests on the silicone when in use, so there’s never a hot sole plate waiting to sear your arm when you turn around.

  • It has a nice long cord (with cool swivel technology so it doesn’t get all twisty).

  • And, totally for aesthetics, Oliso has great colors! (any tips for an excuse of why I need a second one when the turquoise becomes available? Or convincing them to make orange or navy?? All of the above??)

Bottom line: I finally have an iron I can recommend! Huzzah!
