Product Review: Arrow Sewing Chair

Good posture is the key to pain free quilting, and a quality sewing chair is the ultimate hack to achieving and maintaining good posture. I’ve used quite a few different chairs for sewing over the years, and the Arrow Sewing Chair is my favorite. Let me tell you why!

Arrow Sewing has been manufacturing high quality sewing and quilting tables, cabinets, and chairs since 1943. In fact, they’re the number one purveyor of sewing furniture in the US!

Arrow’s sewing cabinets are designed to be a dedicated workstation for your sewing and quilting. The Arrow Hydraulic Sewing Chair is designed with quilters, sewists, and other crafters in mind– folks who need a comfortable, supportive seat for long hours of making as well as mobility for moving around their sewing/ crafting station.

Hydraulic Sewing Chair

The Arrow Hydraulic Sewing Chair has several key features. First, the chair’s adjustable seat (seat height moves between 18 and 22 inches), makes it easy to find your perfect height for reaching the sewing pedal, seeing your piecing, or getting up over your free motion quilting. The plush cushions and lumbar support make it easy to stay comfortable while the five-star 360° swivel base make it easy to sew ergonomically. Finally, the seat’s secret storage compartment is perfect for stashing notions or the good snacks you don’t want your family to find.

I was open but cautious when I first got my Arrow Sewing Chair. I have a saddle stool that I also love, and I wasn’t sure if this chair would have some of the same postural issues as others I’ve tried. On the contrary, the Arrow Sewing Chair promotes good posture while also providing comfortable back support for when your core gets tired as you work.

Pros & Cons

I think there are a lot of pros about having a dedicated piece of sewing furniture, and, to be honest, I was a little skeptical that it would make that big of a difference. Here are a few honest thoughts:

PROS

  • Visually beautiful— makes my space brighter and tidier

  • Sturdy— I’m a rough and tumble human to start with. Plus, we use these chairs in our shop and classroom, both for sitting and as trollies for bolts of fabric!

  • Custom color options– whatever your sewing room vibe, Arrow has a color for you! (I have Duchess blue)

  • Storage Spot

  • THE.BEST.ROLLING. Seriously, the roll and spin on these makes mobility around the room so easy

CONS

  • A dedicated piece of furniture is an investment. You’ll want to consider your budget and the frequency/ intensity of your sewing time to get the most out of this investment

  • I wish the storage cubby had a lock. That would make it a great place to keep sharps away from little fingers when your sewing space is unattended.

The Verdict

I love my Arrow Sewing Chair. It’s aesthetically lovely in my sewing space, plus it is comfortable and supportive to sew in. It checks all my boxes of promoting good posture and has the lil’ bonus of a sneaky hiding spot in the seat. If you’ve been looking for perfect sewing chair, this is it!
