Product Review: Kookaburra Cutting Table

Cutting can be one of the most time consuming parts of making a quilt. It requires precision and attention to detail, and it can be difficult to stay focused if you are cutting in a cramped space or on a surface that isn’t a comfortable, ergonomic height. The Arrow Sewing Kookaburra Cutting Table provides a large surface at just the right height, not to mention nifty storage, to make cutting so much more fun and enjoyable!

Pros & Cons

I think there are a lot of pros about having a dedicated piece of sewing furniture, and, to be honest, I was a little skeptical that it would make that big of a difference. Here are a few honest thoughts:

PROS

  • Visually beautiful— makes my space brighter and tidier

  • Sturdy— I’m a rough and tumble human to start with, and I was curious if the leaves would be strong enough to handle piles of fabric bolts. They are!

  • Cutting/ working at the right height for improved ergonomics (and with a custom mat!)

  • Fabulous storage. We keep cutting tools and such in the drawers and project trays and quilting books on the shelves

  • Flexibility: the ability to fold this cutting table down to a fraction of its size and roll it out of the way is amazing!

CONS

  • A dedicated piece of furniture is an investment. You’ll want to consider your budget and the frequency/ intensity of your sewing time to get the most out of this investment

  • Storing the mat if you fold up the table is a little annoying because rolling it up and then getting it flat again on the table is a thing

  • It definitely took two people and several hours to assemble

The Verdict

I love the Kookaburra Cutting Table. It’s aesthetically lovely in my sewing space, plus it makes cutting (never my favorite step in the process to be honest) a lot easier and more comfortable. I love having the large workspace to lay out projects, too, whether I’m arranging blocks or trimming a quilt or cutting out clothes. I love this table!
